Kinja'd!!!

Are they perhaps some kind of “curb feelers’ dorky cousin”?

No clue.

That’s what this looks like. Which makes me wonder who the heck is driving this thing - they need parking feelers on a car that ends 3 feet behind their head???

These look like some way to protect the bumper from getting crunched by some other car pulling up behind it while parallel parking.

But Brabus...

That may very well *actually* be a Brabus Smart (I have some doubts), but it definitely is *not* a Smart “S”. More perversely, the tennis balls are not actually tennis ball - tennis balls and are dog toy branded tennis balls, and the text on them has been carefully aligned to be upright. While on sawn broom handle (?) dowels jammed in the rear-warning holes.

To put it delicately, the owner may be a loon.

There’s a deranged logic of sorts at work. “Well, I don’t have the backup sensors option, but I need to know when I’m done backing up, so I’ll put a tennis ball thing I bought from PetSmart on a dowel and stick it in the backup sensor hole! It’s the right place for it! I’m a genius!

Is this really one of these?

Sooooo much smarter than paying all that extra $$for the backup sensor option!

This set up is so goofy, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that this car *does* have the backup sensor option.

I tried to make sense of which Smart body pieces went with what so I could see if it was a Brabus in real life. I tried. I *think* my final conclusion was that the cabrio of this gen would have that lower valence if a Brabus, but the hardtop version of this gen would only have that valence on a Brabus if it also had some other silly body kit things going on I didn’t see - and all Brabus versions newer than that have a non-standard valance because of exhaust differences. Maybe.

That was as far as I got with a couple GISes until I had a WHAT AM I DOING moment and decided to stop.

Yeah, I have to admit that I figured it would be difficult to figure one way or the other, so I didn’t bother. I presume fake until proven otherwise—

My guess is that they routinely back into a very small space to park, and need to know exactly when to stop without using the number. Most people would but a parking block on the floor, or hang a tennis ball from the ceiling. Not this guy.

The “S” borrowed from a Corolla does tend to put weight toward “fake”. JUST A TAD

It’s all kind of bizarre. (Don’t tell Miss Mercedes this, but I think the Smart is kind of a bizarre car, not least because its price far outsizes its size...)
